Caring for Destination
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Nature and historical heritage preservation
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
The railroad between Paranaguá and Curitiba was built between 1880 and 1885 and was by that time one of the greatest engineering projects worldwide. Until today the railroad is an important transportation channel for the goods to Paranaguá and most of its track is visited by tourists from all over the world.
The train tour of Serra Verde Express between Curitiba and Morretes is today the second most visited tourist attraction in Paraná State, only after the Iguassu Falls. Besides to enjoy the magnificent landscapes, travelers can see the great Atlantic Rain Forest in its biggest preserved area. This forest is quite important to preserve!
The historical aspect is also very important, as the preservation of the railroad is supported by thousands of tourists every year and tourism is an important economical factor to protect the historical heritage of small picturesque tows such Morretes and Antonina. The tourist demand for services and the inhabitants have been able to preserve or to “rediscover” old traditions, such as the typical foods and dances.
