Gilberto, a man completely dedicated to his business, will be your host at Pousada Estrela do Mar. Gilberto was born in Paraná, where he studied to become a lawyer. Nowadays Gilberto does not practice in his profession, but has used his knowledge to develop one of the biggest business on the island, Pousada Estrela do Mar. [Read more] During this time Gilberto fell in love with Edna, his wife who helps him in all of him decisions. This ambitious project has been increased day-by-day due to Gilberto's initiatives. His goal is to create a place, completely focused on envirponmental protection, where his  guests find everything they need for a completely comfortable stay on the island.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

Pousada Estrela do Mar is recognised on Ilha do Mel and the surrounding area for its initiatives in protecting the environment and developing the local community. Some actions held by Pousada Estrela do Mar are listed below:

- Training and hiring of local workers;

- Support to a local NGO, Amaré, that educates children living in the island.

- Use of solar heating and rain water;

- Recycling of organic waste through humus production (composting). This project brought recognition to Estrela do Mar by several universities that bring their students to the island to understand the system created by Gilberto. The system permits the total use of organic waste produced by the pousada transforming it into humus which can become an economically valuable product.
